Friendly Feature January

I really wanted to start some kind of monthly feature on my blog this year.

I couldn't decide what to feature, though.
So after some thought---
I decided that I would feature a home of one of my friend's each month.
But first, I had to make sure that my friends wanted to be featured---
So, I called up a few friend and they were all interested.
(Thank goodness or I had to come up with something else, whew!)

I told them that I would take the pictures and do a little interview about their home and decor.
I think that this will be a lot of fun!!!

I have some wonderfully creative friends, but none of them blog.
Hopefully, this would be a great way to share some new ideas and styles that you won't find in blogland.

The first home that I want to feature is of my friend Megan's.
Megan bought her first house last year.  It was built in 1926 and has tons of character.
Original hard wood floors and moldings add to the charm.
She lives on a great street with huge oak trees.
I love just driving down her street.

Megan definitely has an eye.
This house was a diamond in the rough (and she has the before pictures to prove it).
Another of Megan's talents is that she draws and paints.
Most of the art in her home was done by her.

Megan's House

When Megan bought this house the floors were covered in dark, dirty carpet.
She discovered the original hard wood floors underneath and had them refinished.

She chose Benjamin Moore's Pashmina for most of the house.
Megan says that the style she is trying to achieve is "traditional modern".

The Living Room

The Dining Room

The dining room table and chairs were thrift store finds which she painted and recovered.

These were drawn by Megan.

The Kitchen
In the galley style kitchen, Megan kept the original cabinet but added some fabulous granite.
The walls are painted Benjamin Moore's Sparrow.

Megan's kitchen is probably the biggest transformation of the entire house.
The kitchen floors were covered with an old brick linoleum pattern and the walls were covered in old dated wallpaper.
She has painted the cabinets and floors, added some gorgeous granite and graphic window coverings.

Megan says that this room is definitely her favorite!!

Here are some before pictures of her kitchen.

You will not believe it??

The Guest Bedroom

The Master Bedroom
In her master bedroom, she used  turquoise and silver as accents to an all white bed.

I would say that Megan brought some new, gorgeous life to an old house in need of some TLC.

She says that she still has a few projects that she wants to complete but will probably wait a while.
She loves her new house and is really having fun decorating it.

Megan was so generous that she shared her delicious M&M cookie recipe that she made in her fabulous kitchen.

Megan's M&M Cookies

1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups M&M's

Combine shortening and sugars.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Add the dry ingredients and stir in some M&M's, reserving some for decorating.  Drop by teaspoonfuls onto a prepared cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.  Decorate the tops of the cookies with M&M's while they are still warm.

Hope that enjoyed this home tour as much as I did.  I will be back next month with another "Friendly Feature".

  1. I LOVE your new monthly feature idea!! Cool beans! Please pass along to Megan my compliments, you're right, she certainly has an eye. Her new kitchen is so sleek and clean, but with fresh flowers and painted photo frames still very warm. Love that giant pendant over the table! Love the turquoise elsewhere. Does she sell her artwork?
